News: Call for Springer Book chapters!

TopoInVis was successfully concluded on June 19. As a follow up, we decided to edit a Springer book in the Series Mathematics and Visualization. Read the full call for book chapters here. We are looking forward to your contributions.

TopoInVis 2019: Software and Applications

Topology-based methods are of increasing importance in visual analysis of data from a wide variety of scientific domains, each involving its own challenges. Typical challenges of topology-based techniques include dealing with large, complex, and time-dependent data, characterizing noise and uncertainty, as well as developing efficient and robust numerical methods.

TopoInVis has developed into a well-established and important workshop in the field of topological methods in visualization. It welcomes fully developed visualization solutions based on topology as well as more foundational work in the field of topological data analysis. The workshop in Sweden, to be held at the Blommenhof Hotel in Nyköping during June 17-19, 2019, is the 8th in a row of very successful workshops (Slovakia in 2005, Germany in 2007, USA in 2009, Switzerland in 2011, USA in 2013, Germany in 2015, and Japan in 2017). It will be held in an open atmosphere of informal discussions, open exchange, and personal interaction.

This year, the focus of the workshop will be on software for topological data analysis and its applications. In addition, we plan to have a one-day software hackathon and tutorial using TTK on the day before the workshop (June 16, 2019), where everybody is invited to participate.

Topics

  • Scalar/vector/tensor/multi-field topology
  • Topology of point sets and cell complexes
  • Theoretical models
  • Combinatorial methods and robustness
  • Multi-scale representation models
  • Time-dependent methods
  • Feature extraction
  • Lagrangian coherent structures
  • Topology-based denoising and simplification
  • Topological similarity and correlation
  • User interfaces and visualization
  • Domain-specific interpretation of topological constructs and results
  • Efficiency of topological algorithms
  • Open implementations of topological algorithms

We welcome contribution as full-papers, extended abstracts, and posters. We also invite previously published work for presentation only. All submissions will be peer-reviewed before the workshop, and must be presented at the workshop. We are planning to publish all accepted papers in the Mathematics + Visualization series of Springer, after a mandatory revision incorporating reviewer comments and discussions at the workshop. The call for the Springer series will additionally include papers based on accepted extended abstracts, as well as novel submissions, both with an additional review cycle. Instructions for submission are available here.
